What is a CPU?

Even though many people heard about it, I am wondering how many actually know what it is, and what it stands for. First of all, the CPU is an acronym for Central Processing Unit, and it is the processor in your computer that is responsible for processing information. Processors are very complicated, and consist of hundreds of millions of transistors. They need to be able to receive data, transform it, and send the data to an appropriate place such as hard drive, monitor, or even back to the CPU. As you can see, the CPU is very complicated, and maybe next time you go shopping for computer components you will understand why this is often the most expensive computer component.
