Shortcut to a Screensaver
February 27, 2009 – 11:08 amMost computer users appreciate screensavers, because they make us feel relaxes and entertained in many cases. Screensavers switch on automatically after your computer is idle, but did you know there is a way to switch on your screensaver just by opening a shortcut on your desktop? This would be useful for a variety of situations, and the process is actually pretty simple. Just locate a .scr file which stands for screensaver. You can use the search option by going to Start->Search. On the other hand, if you do not have any .scr files, you may wish to download them from the Internet. There are a lot of screensavers which are completely free that can be found using popular search engines. You can preview any screensaver by double clicking to make sure you like it. To make a shortcut simply right click on the file and select Send To->Desktop (create shortcut). This will place a shortcut icon on the desktop, and now you can activate your screensaver any time, just by double clicking it.
While some may question why you would want to run a screensaver manually, there are at least a few reasons. First of all, your screensaver does not know exactly when to switch on, as it doesn’t know in how many minutes your computer will become idle. It also doesn’t know anything about and the circumstances related to it. By manually switching on the screensaver you will be able to switch it on exactly at the right moment. Secondly, since many screensavers are fun to look at, sometimes you may simply wish to look at one for a minute or two. Having a shortcut on the desktop will make that extremely easy.
