RAM stands for Random Access Memory and it is a type of storage on your computer. If your computer does not have enough RAM, it will be sluggish and the performance will be quite bad. That is why it is important to have enough RAM, but it is also important to buy the correct type. Here are some tips which may help you:

  • Try to find cheap RAM on auctions sites such as eBay. The prices can vary greatly, so try to find a good bargain. There is quite a big difference when it comes to prices.
  • Check your motherboard manual or see what type of RAM is recommended. This is an important step, as some types of RAM may not be properly utilized on your motherboard. The types of RAM can be SDRAM, DDR, and RDRAM. RDRAM includes both DIMM and RIMM. You will only want to buy compatible RAM, because otherwise your computer will either not switch on at all, or will have performance issues.
  • Make yourself at least vaguely familiar with terms such as DDR, DDR2, and RAM density.

    • I would suggest not buying more than 2 or 4GB, as currently there is really no need for more. However, if you have Windows Vista, 4GB of RAM may be beneficial, especially if you run many applications. Ultimately, I believe that shopping for RAM does not have to be hard, especially if you remember to check your motherboard manual and know what type of RAM to buy.
