Presidential Elections Not Hacked?
December 9, 2008 – 10:12 amBefore the elections this year there was a fear that the presidential elections might get hacked. That is because electronic voting machines were used to vote in the elections. One of the reasons they were introduced is that during the elections in 2000 there was a controversial recount of votes in Florida. This convinced many analysts that machines would be able to do it more efficiently, and most importantly without any bias. Unfortunately, electronic voting machines have problems of their own. Namely, there have been concerns that the machines can possibly be hacked. Imagine the chaos, if that really happened. Fortunately, the machines were not hacked this November. Honestly, I didn’t think this would happen, because I imagine that many security experts were be hired in order to guarantee the security in the upcoming elections. The same people who know how to hack, often work for companies which fight with hackers. That is why I wasn’t worried too much about it, and I am happy that I was right. There are also huge implications of the fact that the machines did their job correctly. I believe that there will be a lot less fear towards newer technology, because people experienced it that it works reliably.
