Nintendo Wii
October 2, 2010 – 11:47 amDo you want to stay fit? Then play games like Wii Fit that force you to get off the couch and actually do some exercise. For a long time people were saying that video games are not healthy, and that is about to change as games like Wii Fit arrive on the market. The game already sold 2 million copies in Japan only, and since exercise is something which gives satisfaction and produces serotonin in our bodies, it is unlikely that you would get bored with this game fast. I see this game as a first step in developing games that encourage healthy living. Such type of games would require you to do similar moves as your avatar on the screen does, and this way they would ensure that you have some exercise.
Nintendo Wii is also an attractive product for other reasons such as WiiWare. This service allows Wii owners who have Internet connection to download games from large and small developers. This service is quite exciting and innovative, however, we should remember that both Sony and Microsoft have already implemented similar services by releasing Sony’s PlayStation Store and Microsoft’s Xbox Live Arcade respectively. What is also exciting about WiiWare is that it will allow independent developers to release lower budget games to the public without being required to have millions of dollars in order to develop a game. This is a real chance for independent developers, and I hope they succeed.
