MP4

Every one of us has heard of MP3, but how many of us actually know what MP4 stands for? Mp4 has many different names including MPEG-4 Part 14, or more formally ISO/IEC 14496-14:2003. While MP3 players serve us by storing audio files, MP4 players are mostly used to store video files, but also support audio and images. MP4 also supports streaming over the Internet. I have to admit that I do not come across the MP4 format very often. It is the MP3 format that is the most popular, and that is why it is easy to conclude that MP3 is the preferred format for audio files. I predict that in the future there will be new video and audio formats; however, these days it seems that the MP3 file format is dominating the market. There is a lot of technical data associated with MP4 format into which I do not want to get into, but I think it will be enough for you to know that such format exists, and that its main purpose is to store video files. On the other hand, you should also know that mp3 files are the most common audio files.
