Linux vs.Windows
July 7, 2010 – 9:48 amWindows is the most popular operating system in the world, and that is probably because it is user friendly. It is also so popular because most programs require Windows to run. That is why an average household has Windows installed on its PC. However, the situation is quite different when it comes to businesses. Businesses do not require its employees to work with many programs, and Linux offers all of the basic programs such as text editors, spreadsheets, calculators, browsers, graphic programs etc. While this may not be enough for a family which wants to play games, or have access to many multimedia programs, companies do not have such requirement. Since Linux is free and Microsoft is not, I predict that more and more businesses will be using Linux. Why would they want to spend a lot of money per machine to use the Microsoft’s operating system, if Linux is for free? On the other hand, the abundance of programs for Windows will make the decision tough for an average family to switch to Linux. There are more and more multimedia programs and games can can be desirable by families, yet only a fraction of them is compatible with other operating systems except Windows.
