Know How Much Energy You Use
January 25, 2012 – 11:51 amI always liked the idea of knowing how much energy, water or gas I use at home or in my home office. The reason I like to know such things is that I want to have total control over everything I spend. If I discover that I use too much energy on heating for example, I might want to take steps in order to reduce the amount of energy spent. This should be not such a difficult task, am I right? Some time ago I came across the idea of Smart Metering. I must admit that I liked the idea from the very start. Being able to control the consumption of everything from gas to water and energy is always appealing to me. Smart metering is a great idea both for water and electricity companies as well as people like me who like to be able to be in total control over everything. The reason smart meters are so great is that the smart meters have an in-home display (IHD) and can give people like me up to date information on how much energy I have used. The information can be displayed in many different ways: in pounds, pence and units of energy. It is a win-win for everybody. Consumers will get accurate bills and will be able to save money, whilst suppliers cut out the need for manual meter reading, which can save a lot of trouble. Every time I receive a letter about manual meter reading, I need to take a day off from work to stay at home to let the guy in. This is inconvenient as I do not like the idea of taking a day off only to let some guy in for a few minutes to read my meters. With smart meters, I never have to wait for anybody to come to my home to read the meters anymore.
