Internet and Teens
March 12, 2009 – 9:59 amThere are many things a young person can do on his computer. I think that parents should watch their children to monitor what they are doing on the net. However, they shouldn’t exaggerate as well, because this leads to a few problems. First of all, everyone no matter what age, everyone deserves the right to privacy. Monitoring every website your family members visit is quite ridiculous to say the least. Another aspect is that a person who is constantly going to get monitored is not going to learn to act in a responsible way, compared to those who actually had to learn to control themselves without Soviet-style supervision techniques.
Anyway, while there are some valuable educational materials available on the internet even for free, you will see your teenager very often playing online games. While all of it has its limits, unless he is neglecting his school duties, he should be allowed to play online games or other computer games, for that matter, as they allow him to do something creative, active and allow him to be among other people. Fast paced action games will provide your teenager with so much needed adrenaline that he needs. His daily life might be boring as it consists of school, and the same people he sees every day, but everything changes into a fascinating adventure once he enters the world of gaming.
