Games Closing Down

August 1, 2009 – 3:23 pm

Massive Multiplayer Online Games were introduced to the public with Ultima Online, Everquest, and Asheron’s Call. These games achieved a quite big success and many developers thought that releasing an MMO would be a great way to make a lot of money. While this was true for many years, it seems that currently there might be an excess of MMORPGs. A proof of that is that many games are permanently closing down including Fury, Immortals, Hellgate London, and Tabula Rasa. They did not make enough money as they had to compete with a dozen of other online games, and simply failed due to lack of innovation or overall bad design. The conclusion is to only make online games if you are sure you will succeed.
