Do Developers Still Prefer Windows XP?

Windows Vista as a successor to Windows XP that has been released long time ago. Even though there was a lot of time to switch to Vista, many computer users and software developers still prefer to use Windows XP. This is reflected in statistics as some studies reveal that only half of software developers are developing software for Vista, while around half are still writing software for Windows XP. There are many reasons behind this, and I understand the situation perfectly. I know many computer users who did not switch to Windows XP as well. Why would not computer geeks switch to Vista, you may ask? There are at least a few reasons:

• Windows XP does the job quite well. If something works well, there is not that big incentive to change it.
• Windows Vista uses a lot more system resources compared to XP, leaving less resources for programs. Switching to Vista without upgrading RAM could cause serious slowdowns. It is recommended that Windows Vista users have at least 4GB of RAM.
• People would have to spend money on buying Vista. If they already have an operating system, they do not have to spend a dime.

Naturally, when more and more programs will require Vista in order to work, then users will have to switch to it.
