Cell Phone Piracy
April 16, 2009 – 12:42 pmCell phones were once only used in a way that traditional phones work: to communicate with others by voice. This has changed and currently many cell phones have cameras, voice recorders, and even the ability to send clips to other cell phones. This progress in technology also means that it is possible to send illegal files between such devices. That is why cell phone networks might soon be monitoring every file which is sent, in order to prevent any copyright infringements. It doesn’t sound so bad, but what about those people who like to send harmless files, such as video clips of goals? I am sure that censorship and monitoring will not be greeted with open arms, and users might find some way around it. That will happen if they will be motivated enough. I completely understand that sometimes monitoring certain activities of citizens is required. However, I will not agree for anybody to abuse this power. After all, our right to privacy is our natural right, and nobody likes his privacy to be abused. I am aware of the fact that many illegal materials might be sent via mobile phones. However, how the society will deal with it will reveal what values are important to us.
